Before you start
- ChatGPT with custom MCP server access. Availability depends on your account and workspace policy. Ask your workspace administrator if the option is unavailable.
- A Network Perspective account with access to the company you want to explore. Ask your Network Perspective administrator to enable AI assistant access if it is unavailable.
- Your organization’s approval to use this tool with your data and allow its connection to Network Perspective.
Contact Network Perspective to confirm the OAuth settings and callback offered by your ChatGPT workspace. This guide uses a pre-registered public client; a new workspace may require a registration update.
The connection reads the reports and metrics available to your account, including report-visible comments and quotations. It does not change reports or settings.
1. Add Network Perspective
Create a custom connection
Open Plugins in ChatGPT. Use the + button and choose Add custom MCP server. Enter the name, description, and public endpoint below.
Network PerspectiveExplore monthly insights into developer experience, collaboration, focus, and delivery. Compare groups, review survey feedback, and track trends using the products enabled for your company.https://app.networkperspective.io/mcpUse the pre-registered OAuth client
Choose OAuth authentication and the option to supply an existing OAuth client, when available. Use this client ID and leave the client secret empty.
np-chatgptIf your setup screen does not offer an existing client ID, contact Network Perspective before continuing. Automatic registration is not supported by this connection.
https://chatgpt.com/connector_platform_oauth_redirectCheck the redirect URL displayed for your MCP connection. If it differs, stop and contact Network Perspective so the registration can be checked. You do not edit this value in ChatGPT.
After compatibility is confirmed, review the connection warning, create the plugin, and review the discovered tools. Install it for your account.
2. Connect your own account
Start the plugin’s sign-in flow when prompted. In a new conversation, type @ and select your Network Perspective plugin to use it.
- Sign in with your own Network Perspective account in the browser.
- Choose the intended company or network when offered, review the requested access, and approve the connection.
- Return to your tool and check that Network Perspective is connected.
Each connection is authorized for one company. To work with another company, use a separate connection where your tool supports it.
3. Try the connection
Start a conversation in ChatGPT and ask:
Use Network Perspective to tell me which company I’m connected to and the current reporting month.Check the answer: the assistant should use Network Perspective’s get_company_info tool and return the company you intended to connect and its current reporting month. A server appearing in a list alone does not confirm it is working.
Then try: “What metrics are available?”
If something gets in the way
A different redirect URL appears
New connections can use a connection-specific callback instead of the registered stable callback. Network Perspective must confirm compatibility before you proceed; changing the URL yourself will not fix it.
ChatGPT does not use the connection
Select the Network Perspective plugin in your conversation and ask it explicitly to use your connected reports. Reconnect through ChatGPT if sign-in has expired. If the server is unreachable, your administrator should check access from OpenAI’s servers.
Sign-in or company access fails
Check the exact client ID in this guide. If the client is rejected, contact Network Perspective. For a missing company or access denied, ask your Network Perspective administrator to check membership, AI assistant access, and report permissions.
The callback does not match
Contact support with the client version and callback value only. Do not send a full authorization URL, sign-in code, token, or secret. Do not change callback hosts or paths to work around an error.
Disconnect whenever you need to
In Network Perspective, open Me → Connected agents, find the connection, and disconnect it. This revokes that connection’s access.
Removing it from your AI tool or clearing local files alone does not revoke access in Network Perspective. Disconnecting cannot remove information already shared with the AI provider.
